Bessie Roker was an American actress, best known for her role as Helen Willis in the sitcom "The Jeffersons". She was born on August 6, 1929, in Brooklyn, New York, and raised in the Bahamas. Roker began her acting career in the 1950s and appeared in various theater productions, television shows, and films throughout her career. She joined "The Jeffersons" cast in 1975, becoming one of the first black actresses to have a recurring role on a primetime network television series. Roker was married to television producer and director Bernard Sandler and had three children. She passed away on August 2, 2002, after a battle with breast cancer.
